About Us

The Brazos County Department of Emergency Management (BCDEM) is charged with the responsibility of reducing the loss of life and property and protecting our critical infrastructure from natural and man-made disasters. The BCDEM successfully accomplishes its mission through a comprehensive, risk-based emergency management program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

Brazos County is vulnerable to a wide variety of natural and man-made occurrences...droughts, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, wild fire, winter ice storms, as well as industrial and transportation accidents. In order to protect public safety and health, BCDEM, along with City of Bryan, City of College Station, City of Kurten and Wixon Valley, and Texas A&M University develops emergency plans, and conducts training and exercises to ensure that the County is prepared to respond and recover from any major emergency situation. In an effort to encourage families and individuals to enhance preparedness, much of the information on the BCDEM web site has been dedicated to help residents prepare for the unexpected emergency.
